Toronto artists Eric Cheung and Sean Martindale have been busy around their city, turning advertising posters into graffiti pocket planters. Introducing nature to the urban environment in ways that might encourage others to do the same, or to at least consider such possibilities.
On their blog Cheung writes:
A further addition to the Natural Urban Interventions. I see this as an impromptu architectural green wall system (or satire of one) that is cut out of existing poster spaces. Some may call it guerrilla gardening, but I see this as more of an ‘Urban Hack’ in its ability to jam an urban system and provoke reaction
They want you to join them, the planter templates are on the blog as well as photos and updates about how their urban project is going.

Author Douglas Coupland is coming out of Vancouver. For sometime he has been writing the good word. Not the least of which is his first breakthrough novel Generation X. He is a trained designer and did his schooling in design at Emily Carr. All that to say he gets busy with his own works of visual art as well. Here are some wasps nests he made of the pages of Generation X with various tree branch types attached.

From 1985 the Fat Boys were hungry bastards up on the downtown Brooklyn Sabarro buffet, but also they were prescient with the whole cityspk thing in the film Krush Groove, featuring a whole slew of up and comers like Russell Simmons, Kurtis Blow, RUN DMC, LL Cool J, UTFO and Sheila E. Actually, a very wicked ass type of flick both if you like Hip Hop or just olden day smutty type NY. And respect goes out to Buffy the human beatbox who died of a heart attack a few years back - originators. He is the one with the sparkly glasses.

And here they are back in the day rapping with Freddy Krueger, testing the waters for a potential film collaboration… Like the man with the severly disfigured wax face says - freddy has got soul now, freddy is urban, he is street… thank god that this is one film that never got beyond the development stage.
