Produkt and the animation of greys

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Voila mes amis. This is the video for 2007 Polaris Prize winning Montrealer Patrick Watson’s song the Great Escape. Like the man says — Doo do dooo da da wa (repeatx10), Bad day looking for the great escape. Words to live by i suppose by Mr. Watson

The startling beauty of the pencil drawn animated piece is from fellow Mtl people and urban artists Alex Produkt (see photo above) and Kathleen Weldon. Doo do dooo da da wa (and again repeat 10X)

This is where we live

This year 4th Estate is celebrating 25 years of publishing (I think they’re owned by HarperCollins) with a brilliant stop motion animation. It is called This is where we live and is some lovely urban typography (over 1000 books) brought to life. It was shown only once on TV in Australia, on a book review show, not as a commercial and had a massive impact on audiences. Made by Apt Studios in 3 short weeks, it shows how 4th Estate sees further than most ordinary publishing houses. Not only for their ground-breaking international literary agenda, but also for their understanding of online video and its wide marketing potential. There are more movies and stills of the making of this film here . Enjoy!

MUTO - a wall animation by BLU

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Blu is an Argentinian graf artist. The stop motion filming of his Berlin installation above features the song Blazin’ by Ghislain Poirier.

Below is the video of his most recent piece, MUTO that was filmed frame by frame from the sidewalk. Once the frame was shot, the work was destroyed. A breathtaking, and quite frankly, unbelievable feat…

He also has a blog.
