Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009Who tagged above? It is right outside a construction site in Guangzhou (also known as Canton in the past) , a city in Southeastern China. Was it someone fed up with rapid urban redevelopment? A common scenary in many major cities in China is the leveling of huge city blocks replacing them with highrises. The “pockets” that temporarily survive become “villages in a city” or cheng zhong cun (城中村). These areas are at times the synonym of ghettos. Can that be a better model of (non) development? Are there alternatives?

Sunday, May 10th, 2009Adidas recently launched its Urban Art Guide to Berlin, a slick interactive gallery dedicated to the city’s best urban art and graffiti. Users can also download the free iPhone app which features a Google map interface, city tours and the possibility to find the closest art pieces in your viscinity using the phone’s geo-positionning capability when you are walking around the city. A very cool cousin application of CitySPK that might spread to other cities after the German capital.

Sunday, April 19th, 2009牛B (adjective) - niu b
Il veut dire féroce, puissant, fort, super, etc. - sauf que c’est une expression vulgaire car “b” est un euphémisme d’organe sexuel. Alors, N.B. que vous n’utilisez pas N.B. au travail!
It means awesome, fierce, powerful, etc. - but it’s a vulgar expression since “b” is an euphemism for sex organ. In other words, N.B. that you don’t use N.B. at work!
tuya - happy family
Monday, April 13th, 2009Si les trois caractères signifient: portrait de famille, une famille heureuse, etc., ne me demandez pourquoi la vulgarité s’est installé.
Don’t ask me why the profanity came along for the joyride if the three chinese characters translated loosely as happy family or a family portrait.
